As China enlarges policy interest and strategic power in the South Pacific, China is playing an active role in the area, which gives rise to America’s concern. China and America are in a gaming situation of soft balance, and such a trend of soft balance, for a long time, will play a dominant role in the further development. In the future, China should focus on cooperation, not directly challenge Americas leading status and maintain the present gaming situation as well as promote regional strategy at a steady pace. This paper explores situation, motivation and strategic means of the game between China and America in the south pacific, which will not only enrich the perception about the definition of soft balance, but also contribute to China’s practice of strategy in the South Pacific region.
