Abstract：The proposal of new model of major-country relationship is the product of China’s long-term thinking on relationship between China and the outside world since the Reform and Opening Up. It is not only the self-awareness and self-confidence of China， but also a preliminary answer to “where is China heading？”. The core goal of the new major-country relationship is to pursue sustainable peace, and adhereing to practice-oriented to reconcile the tension between theory and reality. The practice over past five years has shown that the new majorcountry relationship satisfied with the dual requirements of purposiveness and rationality, and its necessity and possibility have been preliminarily verified. As a new thing which transcends the mainstream international relations theory of the west, it will certainly have a strong vitality.
