Abstract:Following the establishment of new governments of China and Japan, the leaders of the two countries attached great importance to diplomatic work. In the past five years, the leaders have paid visits across the world. The paper adopts statistical quantification method to draw a comparative study of the two leaders’ visits in the following aspects: the basic situation, characteristics, diplomatic purposes, and overlap ratio of diplomatic ties. The results show that there are distinctive differences between the leaders of the two countries in diplomatic strategy, first visiting country, purpose and priority of the visit. A high degree of overlap ratio between China and Japan in diplomatic ties reflects an explicit competitive situation, and two kinds of regions are in fierce competition, namely major powers and neighboring countries of China.
