Abstract：Tibetan Plateau has great geopolitical significance for China, which is demonstrated in correlations between: (1) Tibetan Plateau and Chinas holistic security, (2) borderland represented by Tibet and the central administration, as well as (3) China and countries in the South Asian SubContinent and Persian Plateau. Furthermore, Tibetan Plateau has contributed a lot to safeguarding critical routes of the Belt and Road connecting China and the world. Overlooking the silk road of both ancient and modern times from the peak of Tibetan Plateau, it stretches from Asia to Europe. In the middle, the maritime Silk Road and the continental Silk Road embrace Tibetan Plateau, which stands towering like a fortress, safeguarding exchanges of friendly visits. On Jan 2, 1950, Mao Zedong declared that Tibets position in the world is prominent, albeit without large population. Tibetan Plateau endows China with unique geopolitical advantage, thus China could exert both economic and political impact to the Indian Ocean by means of cooperation rather than territorial expansion, safeguarding interest of the Silk Road.
